What Is “To Ground”?

So what does it really mean when your yoga instructor recommends you “to ground”?

A few of you approached me this week to understand a little more about this concept and I choose to write about it because it is so essential and vital in anything and everything you do – it is the foundation of who you are and who you will slowly unfold to what you were always meant to be.

Indeed, “to ground“ has a physical aspect as when we spend time in nature, taking off our shoes and “earthing” our feet down, connecting to the outer layer of Mother Earth. I had such a grounding long walk this past gorgeous Tuesday, barefoot on our gorgeous beach…..plugging myself back in!!!!

But what lead for that walk and made it possible is yet another cornerstone premise in the concept of “grounding”; to listen deeply to the WISDOM BODY and take inventory of what it needs every single day! On that day, a long Ashtanga practice was planned, but after a couple of private sessions, stepping out of the studio and smelling the fresh air, the need to adapt, pivot and change the plan of my routine was bigger than me. I don’t need to tell you how foundational yoga is in my life – it has been with me, by my side, through so many transitions, since 1998. But a true yogi knows that the asana (the physical poses), is just ONE LIMB in the process of adapting to the YOGA WAY OF LIFE, truly and wholeheartedly.

On that day, the YOGA OFF THE MAT was called to action – the tapping into my WISDON BODY – that power and acute knowledge within, which directs our daily actions into serving ourselves and others with grace and purpose. It is a truly high way to live. It is to trust that the body knows, to allow the body to change its mind without judgment, to be truthful and authentic.

When you allow your wisdom body to be the biggest voice leading your way, and not external pressure, expectations, false ego and fear, you are one giant step closer to KNOWING – following with trust that it is ALL making sense and then ONENESS with everything there is, bringing with it confidence and calm.

Revi Frydman

I am the founder/owner of Neshama Yoga Studio—a sacred place for all to come, listen and  meet their one and only, unique SOUL (Neshama).

Revi-Lations was born out my students’ positive reactions to my weekly newsletter and different peeps along the way who kept urging me to think about a blog, a podcast or something in between.

Posting my newsletter on my website, is my natural “In Between“. We had a few names as potentials (Revi’s corner, Revi’s Soapbox and few more…), but it landed on Revi-Lations, by my gorgeous, talented, writer Sis-in-law, Lisa Barr (who has an open book with all my mistakes in English, saved for a day she needs to use it against me 😱.  I’m sure soon enough, you would too…).  I do hope you enjoy it and if it ever gets you through the day, drop a comment and let me know.

As always,
Love,
Only love,
Give love,
Be love –
