The Power of Day Dreaming

Day dreaming, typically associated with bad reviews from both parents and teachers, is a tool that is not only natural, inevitable and involuntary, but can really be powerful and in fact, the first natural human way to MANIFEST!

From very early on, my head was “in the clouds”. I had visions and a fantasy landscape full of details like language, people, food and locations!!! These were NOT at all a misbehavior, a refusal to listen or any of the negative associations typically paired with day dreaming.

Not at all!!! I was a good student, active in youth groups, had my friends, a small tutoring/babysitting gig…..typical pre-teen/teen. But with a power on the inside I was going to explore fully, not knowing years later, that I have manifested most of it, into my current life!!!

Naturally, in my day dreaming, the English language was used – I spoke it fluently (better than in my current life 😜), music was soulful, upbeat, alternative and loud (if you come to my classes, you know…..its loud!!!! 😜), and I was married, saving the world as a tough criminal lawyer (well, currently a passionate yoga instructor 🤷‍♀️), and married to a doctor (bingo!!!!).

There was no real reason for me to dream this stuff – no English contingencies in my family line – all from Spanish, later Moroccan decent. Being a tough, successful criminal lawyer was a long shot, as a student coming from a small, very disadvantaged town in Northern Israel, and a doctor as husband (we have no other doctors in my family)!!!!

So what was it?????? And honestly, that day dream was pretty frequent, natural and kept adding on details I now have no explanations for, except to excuse it with a big word used these days, in the art of self healing – MANIFESTATION !!!

I saw myself going for my higher education abroad (English speaking country – that part was never clearly specified except the language), and then told my parents, my siblings and friends that I will probably study abroad (they rolled their eyes, of course) and then one day, meeting a guy from Chicago, who later told me, my mom and my sibs, that he was going to return home after a year abroad straight to med school – man!!!!!!!

What I followed in this type of day dreaming was not a mere fantasy to escape some reality, which on it’s own, can be a powerful tool. It was following a knowing on the inside and allow it to grow, expand, come alive!!!!

You see, we learn often about the benefits of meditation and the power of manifesting – telling the universe, clearly, what we want and bring it fourth. In the practice of Yoga Nidra, we make an intention, SANKALPA , to resolve to a statement in the present tense, as if it already happened – focusing on gratitude that it did, rather than a wish that it will. Finally, in mystic Judaism there is a sacred practice, called “HAZTHARAT KAVANOT”, meaning, A DECLARATION OF WILL; to assert, give thanks, and believe it is coming!!!!

Day dreaming has many benefits research can support. Contrary to traditional views, day dreaming can help you focus and achieve your goals by fantasizing about anything you want and any anticipated results which in turn, increase motivation and commitment.

Day dreaming can improve creativity. How many times do we see something in our head, way better than we can articulate or explain???? Neuroscience research shows that when we day dream or “mind wander”, there is a connection across different regions of the brain, known as Default Mode Network or DMN. This is mostly common when the brain is in a wakeful rest, planning the future in the sense of intention, manifestation or again, day dream.

Finally, with all the above coming together, day dreaming can improve performance. Researchers have found that people who day dream, or mind wander more, have much more patience, that later translates to better decision making. Loving and believing in the details we see in our day dreaming, gives room to wait at times, for a better opportunity, or a bigger reward, before we jump on the first offer.

I’m positive that so much of the details we now have in our lives, we have created, or are about to create, which we have seen earlier, in our minds!

I am now, married with four kids, post graduate school in the USA, married to a doctor. I hope I do, somehow, sometimes, save the world and I STILL DAY DREAM AND WILL, FOREVER!!!!!!

WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR CURRENT LIFE REALITIES, WHICH STARTED THEIR EXISTENCE IN A DAY DREAM!!!!

I am the founder/owner of Neshama Yoga Studio—a sacred place for all to come, listen and  meet their one and only, unique SOUL (Neshama).

Revi-Lations was born out my students’ positive reactions to my weekly newsletter and different peeps along the way who kept urging me to think about a blog, a podcast or something in between.

Posting my newsletter on my website, is my natural “In Between“. We had a few names as potentials (Revi’s corner, Revi’s Soapbox and few more…), but it landed on Revi-Lations, by my gorgeous, talented, writer Sis-in-law, Lisa Barr (who has an open book with all my mistakes in English, saved for a day she needs to use it against me 😱.  I’m sure soon enough, you would too…).  I do hope you enjoy it and if it ever gets you through the day, drop a comment and let me know.

As always,
Love,
Only love,
Give love,
Be love –
